Proizvođač guma Continental posluje već više od 140 godina odnosno 1871. započinje s radom. Zaštitni znak tvrtke je bijesan konj kojeg uvode 1882. godine. Nakon izrade prvih guma za bicikle, do 1920. postaju najveći proizvođači guma u Njemačkoj. Od 1921. proizvode gume s unutarnjom oblogom i pojačanom žicom za teretna vozila, a do kraja 20-ih godina su vodeći proizvođači guma za teretna vozila u Njemačkoj s prodajom od 90% od ukupnog tržišta. Godina 1943. je odlučujuća godina za nove inovacije, naime prvi u svijetu predstavljaju gume bez unutarnje obloge, otada gotovo isključivo ovakve gume proizvode i drugi proizvođači. U 50-im godinama, izrađuju zimske gume za komercijalna vozila što dokazuje da imaju više od 60 godina iskustva u izradi zimskih guma. Od kraja 80-ih godina ciljano žele postati proizvođači guma na svjetskoj razini i počinju se širiti u inozemstvo. Na temelju mišljenja njihovih kupaca, trenutno su peti po redu najveći proizvođači guma u svijetu, a 2011. tvrtka je premašila registriran broj svojih izuma tj. više od 1100. Zahvaljujući neprestanom razvoju tehnologije i inovacija, Continental spada u skupinu proizvođača koji izrađuju gume premium kvalitete. Iz godine u godinu postižu odlične rezultate prilikom testiranja ljetnih i zimskih guma.
